All-weather, day-and-night Earth observation capabilities for environmental monitoring
LOTUSat-2, Vietnam’s first Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite, represents a significant leap forward in the country’s space technology capabilities. Scheduled for launch in 2027, this satellite will provide all-weather, day-and-night Earth observation capabilities.
SAR technology uses active microwave sensors that can penetrate clouds, fog and smoke, making it invaluable for tropical countries like Vietnam where cloud cover is persistent. Key applications include: flood mapping during monsoon seasons, oil spill detection on water surfaces, ground deformation monitoring, agricultural crop monitoring and maritime surveillance.
LOTUSat-2 will significantly enhance Vietnam’s self-reliance in satellite data, reduce dependency on foreign providers and support national priorities in environmental monitoring, disaster management and food security.
Our team is preparing to leverage LOTUSat-2 data for enhanced environmental monitoring services, including SAR-based water quality assessment, flood mapping and coastal erosion monitoring.
